The Old Tigris Bridge (TR: Eski Dicle Köprüsü) was built on Roman foundations by the Oğuz-Turkish Artuqid dynasty (TR: Artuklu Beyliği, Artukoğulları) in 1116. The bridge used to have a length of 100 meters with the central arch spanning 40 meters. It is believed to be the longest of the Medieval Period. Various sources state that the center of the bridge was made of wood, and it could be removed to prevent enemy advance.
