Colorado River, Horseshoe Bend Point, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Arizona. 26-5-1996.
This is from the now-famous Horseshoe Bend Point near Page, Arizona. I don't think it was all that well-known at the time I took this picture, given the limited proliferation of the Internet back then. You can see variations of this everywhere these days.
The Colorado is about 2,300 km long. It starts off in northern Colorado state, and flows into the Gulf of California by way of Utah and Arizona. It is the primary source of irrigation in the desert southwest of the U.S. A short distance to the west of the Point is the Glen Canyon Dam and its reservoir, Lake Powell.
